How did I get www.briangrattan.com?

  1. I went to Network Solutions and found that briangrattan.com was not owned.
  2. I decided there was no way I could get my own server, so instead of just $70, I decided to shell out an extra $49 to have Network Solutions forward visitors (like you) of briangrattan.com to my own web-site (like the 50megs.com server or edatarack server).
  3. I gave them all the necessary information including a credit card number.
  4. I waited...
  5. Finally, about 36 hours after I registered, a generic "Under Construction" page appeared at briangrattan.com.
  6. I set up "dot com forwarding" on my Network Solutions account.
  7. I waited...
  8. I called Network Solutions. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes, they said "dot com forwarding" takes 24 to 48 hours to get processed.
  9. I waited...
  10. After 48 hours, it was still stuck at the "Under Construction" page so I called again, and waited 15 minutes on hold before they told me they were having problems with the forwarding.
  11. I set up the "dot com business card" with a link to my web-page (and a comment on Network Solutions dismal service) and resubmitted the "dot com forwarding" request.
  12. About 20 hours after that it finally worked!
  13. Now, I will not have to reregister for two years when my "lease" on briangrattan.com ends.
So, all in all, it was a rather frustrating process. But I am glad I finally have it set up! According to Network Solutions, they provide around 15,000 domain names a day.
Now, you can go home, or find out why I got briangrattan.com.
